Sonic Beer Blog #11: Greater Good Imperial Brewing Company Bigg Thaw

Much like the Allagash Hop Reach covered in the last post this Greater Good Bigg Thaw welcomes the spring with a bright golden color, a floral aroma, and a crispness that calls that meteorological rat Punxsutawney Phil a big fat liar. That may come from the cold brewing process. But it’s from Greater Good, which means it’s an imperial. So unlike the Hope Reach it brings Spring in like a lion at 9% ABV.

The first thing I noticed was the golden straw color which woke me from my Winter fog. It was hoppy and tropical on the nose. There was lemon, floral hops, herbal and grain. The first sip was more lemon rind and floral herbs with some fruity melon. The finish was crisp with a light bitterness, more tropical fruit and a booze blast to the forehead. This IPA will awaken your senses and then calm you down for a chill ride.

The Sonic Pairing: This would go well with what I call “The Last Great Rolling Stones Album”(And I’ll die on that hill), “Tattoo You”. It starts you off rocking with side one and then chills you out with the smooth textures of side two. This is a brew you would definitely want to share with “Neighbors” and after a couple you might be in “Heaven”. Or maybe enjoy a few while you’re “Waiting On A Friend” at the bar. If they’re late, there’s “No Use In Crying”, just have another.
