Joe Satriani and Steve Vai have played with artists like Chickenfoot, Mick Jagger, Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth, Johnny Rotten and many, many others. They have been major innovators in the world of guitars and are finally working together on a tour and an album. Which is weird because they’ve known each other for over 50 years! In fact, Joe was(and still kind of is) Steve’s guitar teacher. Mike Hsu talks to them about the teacher/student dynamic, what took them so long to collaborate on creating music, and who their favorite non-rock guitar players are.
