Sonic Beer Blog #21: Zero Gravity Green State Lager

I remember one beautiful June day in the Berkshires of Massachusetts, me and some friends dragged a couple of canoes out of the rental shed and launched them into Fish Pond in North Adams. It was one of those days where there was absolutely nothing obscuring the deep blue sky. The sun was a searing disc eschewing a dry heat and we were paddling like crazy. It started with some taunting and one bump led to a push and all of us went ass up into the water and laughed as we tried to right our water logged vessels. When we finally made it back to shore we lay in the grass under the hot summer sun. Drinking ice cold beers that were swimming in the cooler all day. The smell of the pond steaming off of our drenched clothes. Still laughing.

That’s what this beer tastes like.

I could tell you it smells of lemongrass, malt, and apples. Or that there is a push and pull between sweetness and bitterness on the finish. I could say this is a very drinkable pilsner that the folks at Zero Gravity have created and it has a ton of character. But none of those were my first thoughts.

The Sonic Pairing: I remember at the time of the aquatic incident described above we were listening to ‘Jane’s Addiction’s, “Nothing’s Shocking” non-stop. The well balanced mix of Metal, punk rock, psychedelia and Led Zeppelin had mesmerized us. It was everything we loved about music in one loosely wrapped weirdo package. From the shimmering waves of guitar in “Up The Beach” to the rage of “Pigs In Zen”(if you had the cassette bonus track) it was a crazy road trip of Dave Navarro’s guitar pyrotechnics, Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins’ solid grooves and Perry Farrell’s ferocious snarl. It was the soundtrack to a crazed life. Good times.
